The Epson WF-C5790 and the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN are both fast office printers used by small workgroups across Canada. Though the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN has the faster print speed, it has a longer first page out time. Let’s take a look at how these two multifunction colour printers compare.
Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5790 ($389)
Based on PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology, the Epson WF-C5790 offers speed, precision, quality, and reliability. It prints, scans, copies, and faxes. You can print from computers and mobile devices over the network, Wi-Fi, or remotely via the cloud. This printer is designed for print volumes of up to 2,500 pages per month.
The Epson WF-C5790 business inkjet printer has a print resolution of up to 4800 dpi. It is economical to own thanks to the energy savings of PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology and the affordable Epson Replaceable Ink Pack System with page yields of up to 10,000 ISO pages. Two versions of the Epson WF-C5790 are available: the standard Epson WF-C5790 ($389 CAD) includes a starter set of ink packs; and the Supertank version ($999 CAD) includes two years’ worth of ink in the box (starter packs plus 3 T902XXL black ink packs and 9 color T902XL packs).
With its print speed of 24 ISO ppm and fast first page out, the Epson WF-C5790 colour inkjet printer is almost as fast as the 30 ppm Xerox laser printer.
Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN ($699 CAD)
Based on LED laser technology, the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN is a fast all-in-one colour printer that prints, scans, copies, faxes, and emails. It also offers network, wireless, and remote printing,
Offering a print resolution of 2400 dpi, the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN is ideal for workgroups of 2 to 7 people. It uses individual colour and black ink cartridges with page yields ranging from 1,000 to 5,500 ISO pages.
With its 30 ISO ppm print speeds, the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN is faster than the 24 ppm Epson WF-C5790. However, the laser printer must warm up first while the Heat-Free Epson does not. As a result, the Epson WF-C5790 can begin printing documents — and may even finish the job — while the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN is still warming up. From power save mode, this can give the Epson a 27-second head start! When already operating, the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN’s first page out time is up to 8.7 seconds for colour and 7.4 seconds for black.
Warmup and first page out times make the two printers comparable in speed for most print jobs. For example, the video below compares the two printers side by side printing an 8-page document.
