Afinia L901 Plus Memjet Color Label Press

The Afinia L901 Plus from Afinia Label is a Memjet Technology-based digital color label press and printer. It produces vivid, full color labels at a print resolution of 1600dpi and a print speed of up to 12 inches per second. Both the print quality and print speed are exceptional thanks to Memjet technology.

L901 Plus uses the new Memjet VersaPass DN Inks

The improved Memjet dye inks used in the Afinia L901 Plus offer much better UV and water resistance than earlier (Memjet VersaPass DG inks) formulas and have deeper blacks. Like its Memjet predecessors, the Afinia L901 Plus has an ultra-low cost per label. It uses five 250ml ink tanks for economical operations.

What is the difference between L901 and L901 Plus?

The only difference between the L901 and L901 Plus is the Memjet inks that are included with it. The L901 Plus has the new Versapass DN inks which provide better UV and water resistance. However, we highly recommend that you send us some sample files so that we can print you samples for testing. You can then see which ink works best for you.

In addition, the L901/L901 Plus Memjet printhead’s lifespan has a slightly longer when compared to the L801’s printhead life, which will save you maintenance costs over the life of the printer.

As the printer is printing, it’s necessary to do regular print head cleaning / maintenance. The Afinia L901’s Memjet printhead is serviceable inline, which allows you to run large print jobs without having to cut the web like in the L801. On the L801, the printer will automatically cut the web in order to access the printhead cleaning station, which is located under the label material. On the L901, the printhead cleaning station is on the side; therefore, the web is never cut.

When the web is cut, you have to then reload the label material and run the material again. This slows down large jobs. The ability to perform maintenance inline without cutting the web is the primary difference between the L801 and L901.

The new Afinia L901 Plus can be used four ways:

• Afinia L901 Plus Base Unit: Print and Apply — The Afinia L901 Plus base unit can be used on its own to print your own full color labels and barcodes up to 8.5 inches wide. Simply print your labels and apply them to your products.
• Afinia L901 Plus + Rewinder and Unwinder: Roll-to-Roll — You can use the Afinia L901 Plus as a digital label press by adding a rewinder and unwinder (sold separately; see table below) to it.
• Afinia L901 Plus + Label Finishing System: Inline Printing & Die Cutting — The L901 Plus is designed for inline operation and can be integrated with a digital label finishing system (also sold separately, like the DLP-2100). Once configured, the printed labels move through the label finisher where they are cut, slit, laminated, and wound onto the label core.
• Afinia FP230 Flexible Printing Press: The Afinia L901 Plus serves as the print engine for the Afinia FP230 flexible printing press. If you are thinking about printing your own flexible packaging, be sure to look at the FP230.
